F/O. Joseph Edward Ell DFC.

Royal Air Force 15 Squadron

from:Dilke, Saskatchewan

Joe Ell was my High School Algebra teacher at Shellbrook, Saskatchewan. He often told stories about his service but now we find out that he received the DFC from King George VI at Buckingham Palace. He never mentioned this. We would constantly trick him into talking about his service and protocols for aiming bombs to get out of learning algebra. He told us about how he had complete command of the aircraft over the drop zone including the decision to abort. He talked about his training as well at the RCAF training base at Dafoe, Saskatchewan. He died in April 2004.
