Charles Hatch joined the 7/4th Maritime Regiment of the Royal Artillery, presumably from the 13th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, of which he was previously a member.
In March 1942, he sailed as an AA gunner aboard the SS Clan Campbell with Malta-bound convoy MW10 from Alexandria.
Following the Second Battle of Sirte, he was killed in action during an air attack while manning his AA gun. The ship sank off the coast of Malta on 23rd March 1942.
