Robert Hughes Royal Navy HMS Scylla Robert Hghes was the author of In Perilous Seas (1990) and Flagship to Murmansk (1963) paperback editions, originally entitled Through the Waters (1956) which recounted details of his time aboard HMS Scylla. He retired from the Navy after the war to become a headteacher at Whitchurch C of E Junior School, Shropshire, where I was a pupil of his. After retiring from teaching in 1977 he became the town mayor.
