Pte. G. Macleod

British Army Cameron Highlanders

(d.6th March 1944)

I recently visited Monte Cassino War Cemetery. It was very quiet, I was the only living soul there. I decided as an Infantry soldier myself, it would be fitting and proper to say a prayer at one of the burial sites, as an offering from one soldier to another who made the ultimate sacrifice. I randomly chose one, and approached. As you see in the image it was a Private, G. Macleod 33, old for a Private, very old, but by 1944 they were taking everyone they could. It occurred to me his family may not have ever made it here to see him. I said a prayer, thanking him and hoping his passing was easy. This entry is a testament, that someone thought of him that day and as I create this entry.
