Sig. Walter George Treen

Royal Navy HMS Malvernian

from:London

My father Walter Treen was on board HMS Malvernian in August 1941 when it was sunk in the Atlantic. After two weeks adrift in a lifeboat he was rescued by a German ship and taken prisoner. After some months in Marlag und Milag Nord camp near Bremen, he was moved to Poland. He was put in Bau und Arbeits Batallion 21 based at Blechammer. At the end of 1944 he was moved with other prisoners on a death march, ending up in Bavaria, where the Americans eventually liberated him.
