Denis Stewart Hay
Royal Navy HMS Ithuriel
from:Altmore Avenue, East Ham
My father, Denis Hay, served with the Royal Navy in WW2 aboard HMS Ithuriel. He didn't ever discuss the war so, unfortunately, I do not have any information other than as follows.
I have just found his war time photo album with pictures of HMS Ithuriel and other ships. He mentions the Malta Convoy and a Catalina flying boat being shot down by the Vichy French fighters, injuring 2 pilots severely. When helping to take the plane in tow they were attacked by a fighter and destroyed it. They managed to rescue the wounded pilots. He mentions HMS Westcott, leader of the 13th Destoyer flotilla and other ships. They sunk an Italian submarine and the crew were blindfolded and taken to a prisoner of war camp.
