S/Sgt. Milburn J. Long

US Army 744th Light Tank Battalion

from:Salinas, CA

Staff Sergent Milburn Long was my father. He served in the US Army 75th Infantry Division, 744th Light Tank Battalion in WW2. I was born in 1948. Dad served about 3.5 years, being drafted for the duration. He did not talk a lot about his action, but a story he did enjoy telling was about coming into a village in Germany on a Sunday. Apparently they roused the local Burghermeister and convinced him to open the ice cream parlor. The more unpleasant parts of war he did not dwell upon. He was awarded a Silver Star for valor, it can be seen online. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
