Pte. Luke Gilbey

British Army 1st Btn. Queens Own Cameron Highlanders

from:Gateshead, Co. Durham

My late father, Luke Gilbey had a shrapnel wound on his leg. The wound was through to the back of his leg. This caused a break in his bone too and he spent some time in hospital with his leg in plaster. He was very proud to say he met Vera Lynn when she was visiting the soldiers in hospital, and she signed his plaster cast.

I have all my fathers medals, and I am very proud he served in the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders in Burma. We lost my father in 1974.
