251680 Arthur Edwin Phillips Royal Navy HMS Pytchley from:Birmingham We only found out about 8 years ago that Great Uncle Arthur Phillips had been involved in the d-day landings. He was standing on board HMS Pytchley on D-Day when a landing craft drew up beside it. The pilot asked for volunteers as all of his crew had been killed, and Uncle Arthur volunteered. He was 24 years old. When he told us this he was in his early 90's and he said from the second that his feet hit the deck of the landing craft he had been unable to recall a single moment from the rest of that day.
