Fresh young recruit in 1940

Jim Fox enlisted in the Territorial Army and was posted to Infantry Training Centre on 13th of June 1940. He was sent to Ayr for training then posted to the 1st Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers on 5th of October 1940. He served in Madagascar 1942, South Africa (boarded out) 1942, India February 1943 to 1944, Burma February 1944 to May 1945. He landed back into Southampton and was transported to Edinburgh to be signed off, only to arrive back in Middlesbrough in October 1945, the day after his father was buried (the army knew about the funeral but didn't make any attempt to send him home earlier). He never spoke about his war experiences but suffered nightmares and bouts of malaria for the rest of his life.
