Flt.Sgt. William Robert Field

Royal Air Force 550 Squadron

from:Edgware, Middlesex

(d.15/16 March 1945)

Because of illness my uncle had to leave his original crew for treatment. On recovery he rejoined his squadron but his original crew had completed their tour and so he was attached to another crew to complete his operational tour. On a raid to Misburg, Lower Saxony in Germany on the night of 16 March 1945 his aircraft was lost through enemy action with 5 crew killed (including my uncle), one escaped and one hospitalised. He was 29.
