My late father, Arthur Fitt, was a territorial called up in September 1939 to RAOC and posted to France in 1940, based in May at Arras from where he retreated for eventual embarkation at St Nazaire. He held the Rank of Sergeant at that stage. He was re-classified as Clerk Class 1 at Stromness in August 1940, selected for OCTU September 1940 and was commissioned in December 1940, posted July 1941 in RAOC to Egypt and Palestine. He held a series of roles in Gen Stores, Tech Stores, Returned Stores and ended war as T/Lt.Col. in Cairo, had responsibility at one time for supervision of Italian POW's.
