Pte. John Garner

British Army 9th Btn., 1 Platoon, A Company Durham Light Infantry

John Garner was my uncle and a Yorkshire man. He served for most of his short army career with the 9th Durham Light Infantry during WW2. He contracted TB towards the end of the war.

With the reduction of the army at the end of hostilities John Garner was transferred to the Northamptonshire Regiment whilst still a patient in Ilkley Sanatorium, Yorkshire. There he died of consumption on the 18th Nov 1947 at the age of 22. His name is inscribed on Conisbrough Cenotaph.
