Sgt. John Harding

British Army Royal Engineers

from:Hackney

My father, John Harding told us that he was a dispatch rider, he was apparently ordered to clear a field of sheep with another soldier so that a test firing could be carried out with 2000 rockets. The commanding officer gave the order too soon and my father and his friend were forced to hide in craters to try to protect themselves. This occurred just before D-day. As a result of this he was unable to participate on D-day but went over several days later and found that a lot of his friends had been killed.
