Pte. Arthur Wilfred "Robbo" Robinson

British Army 5th Recce Regiment Reconnaissance Corps

from:Tottenham

My father, Arthur Robinson, was born in 1912 in Tottenham, London and called into the 3rd Tower Hamlets Rifles on 24th of July 1940. He was then attached to the newly formed 5th H Btn. Recce Regiment

His periods of service were;

  • 24/07/1940 to 14/03/1942 UK & Ireland
  • 15/03/1942 to 17/08/1942 British India
  • 18/08/1943 to 08/03/1943 Iraq
  • 09/03/1943 to 28/08/1943 Middle East
  • 29/08/1943 to 18/06/1944 North Africa

In civilian life he started work for British Rail (LNER) at Liverpool Street & King's Cross from 1927 to 1969, then the Metropolitan Water Board (Thames Water Authority) until his death in 1975 aged 62. I was only 22 when he died and so never really got to have a meaningful conversation with him about his life during his service years. Oh how I wish I could turn the clock back.
