Pte. Albert Edwin John Nicholls

British Army Welch Regiment

from:Dagenham, Essex

My father, Albert Nicholls, sailed around Africa to get to Egypt, and after developing tuberculosis during the conflict, was sent back around Africa, with a stay in Pietermaritzburg to recuperate and a stop in Capetown to refuel the ship and have shore leave. I have photos of him at the site of the Sphinx in Egypt, in the hospital at Pietermaritz and a scene from the ship at Capetown. In his writings before his death, he speaks of the friends he lost in North Africa.
