Cpl. Arthur W. Allen

Royal Marines HMS Effingham

from:Tottenham

(d.20th June 1944)

My eldest brother, Arthur Allen, was on HMS Effingham and was rescued after it struck a rock in Norway. There was a photo of him after he was rescued in one of the London evening papers. One of our neighbours knocked on our door to show my parents and this was the first we knew about it.

Unfortunately, Arthur drowned in a reservoir near Staines whilst doing underwear experiments as a Royal Marine frogman.
