Cpl. Herbert Bottomley

British Army Royal Army Ordnance Corps

from:Colne, Lancashire

(d.18th September 1945)

Herbert Bottomley was born in 1914 in Nelson, Lancashire. Herbert served with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and died age 30. He is buried in Clichy Northern Cemetery, Hauts-de-Seine, France. I only ever remember seeing my uncle Herbert once, I must have been about four. My mother told me later that my great uncle Herbert (born 1888) had lost his life in WW1 on 18th September 1918, and that my uncle Herbert (born 1914) had lost his life in WW2 on 18th September 1945. My mother always says she prayed that I would stay alive well into my 30s because my birth was on anniversary of their deaths. She must have prayed well, as I'm now approaching my 77th birthday.
