Cpl. Edward Alfred Walter Lilley

British Army 2nd Btn. Hertfordshire Regiment

from:Layer Marney, Essex

Edward Lilley was wounded in Italy in 1944 but his mother received a telegram informing her that he had died of wounds. A few weeks later she was told that he had not died but was on the critical list in hospital in Italy. He recovered from his injuries and survived into old age. He believed his name was on a war memorial somewhere in Hertfordshire but we have not been able to verify this.
