Vice Admiral (Commodore 2nd Class) Humphrey Smith was the Son of Hugh Colin and Constance Maria Josepha Smith (nee Adeane), husband of Jean Ellis Hugh Smith (nee Mackintosh) of Radnage, Buckinghamshire. He had also served in the 1914-1918 war. He was the author of "A Yellow Admiral Remembers" and "An Admiral Never Forgets".
He was aged 64 when his ship was sunk by a German U-Boat and his body washed ashore. He is buried in the Bunbeg Church of Ireland Cemetery in Co. Donegal, Ireland.
