Ellen Betts

Munitions Worker

I have discovered that my mother, Ellen Betts, worked at a munitions factory during the war years, it was a (then) secret wartime arms factory at Haswell, Nr Easington, Co Durham? It seems the factory was discovered by the Germans and an attempt to bomb it took place about 1940 but the damage was minimal and production was not stopped.

If anyone has information or photos I would love to hear from them. Most of the female workers have passed away but some (well into their 80s) have fond memories.
