Edward Webber, son of Walter and Emma Dorothy Webber of Jarrow, County Durham, was born in 1920. He died aged 24 in the waters northeast of Cherbourg after the HMS Capel was sunk by torpedo fire from the U-486. He is commemorated on Panel 83, Column 2 of Portsmouth Naval Memorial, and also on the WW2 Roll of Honour Plaque in the entrance to Jarrow Town Hall.
