207524 Pte. Ian Gray British Army 2nd Battalion Royal Scots from:Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland (d.3rd March 1943) Private Ian Gray was my Great Uncle. He was wounded and captured during fighting in Hong Kong against the Japanese. He was a POW at Shamshuipo Camp in Kowloon before being sent to Japan on the Lisbon Maru. The Lisbon Maru was sunk by US Forces in September 1942. Ian Gray survived and was held by the Japanese as a POW at Kobe (Osaka #2B Camp) where he died of cardiac beri-beri on 3 March 1943 aged 23 years.
