Sgt. Edward H. Haywood

US Army Company C 1st Ranger Battalion (Darby's Rangers)

from:Philadelphia PA

My Dad, Ed Haywood, rarely talked about his war experiences in the Darby's Rangers. He trained with the British Commandos near Dundee Scotland. He fought in Algiers, Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Italy including Anzio, Chiunzi Pass, Salerno, Cassino, etc. At Chiunzi Pass during a heavy fog he came upon a lost patrol of 8 Nazi soldiers and bluffed them into thinking they were surrounded. Three days later he was wounded and later wounded again at Anzio.
