World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII 1939 1945

36th Infantry Brigade



   36th Infantry Brigade reformed on the 7th of October 1939 as part of 12th (Eastern) Infantry Division. They proceeded to France and saw action in May 1940 suffering very heavy casualties. Back in the UK the Brigade was reformed as an independent Brigade and served on Home Defence dutis. In June 1942 it joined 78th (Battleaxe) Division and saw action in North African, Sicily and Italy.
    36th Infantry Brigade was made up of
  • 2/6th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment (until 26th of October 1939)
  • 6th Battalion, Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment
  • 7th Battalion, Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment (until 20th August 1942)
  • 5th Battalion, Royal East Kent Regiment (from 26th October 1939)
  • 36th Infantry Brigade Anti-Tank Company (formed 18th August 1940, disbanded 20th June 1941)
  • 8th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (from 21st August 1942)
  • 181st Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps (from 10th December 1941 until 22nd June 1942)

Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home.

If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes.
