262467 Pte. Alexander Petticrew British Army 2nd Btn. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers from:Belfast (d.11th Jul 1916) Alexander Petticrew married my great-aunt May Lee in September 1914 and she had a son Eric Alexander born in March 1915. I don't think that Alexander ever got to meet his son before dying at the Somme on 11th of July 1916. Extract from the War Diary dated 11th of July 1916: 'The enemy launched two determined bombing attacks against our position at 3am and 9pm. Both attacks were repulsed, and our Lewis guns inflicted heavy losses on the enemy'. He left £12 9s 9d to his son, and his widow was awarded a War Gratuity of £11 0s 0d.
