Sgt. Arthur James Sparkes

My great grandfather Arthur Sparkes joined the British Army, the 3rd Suffolk Regiment in about 1899, where he was stationed at Alderney in the Channel Islands. In 1914 he Joined up again in Bury St Edmunds in the 3rd Suffolk Regiment and moved with his wife Caroline who he first met on Alderney, and his children to Felixstowe to the Battalion headquarters.
Arthur and the other Sargents were there to train the soldiers who went over to the Western Front.
