Pte. Samuel McCarthy
British Army 2nd Battalion Cheshire Regiment
from:121 Cornwall Street, St George in the East, London
Samuel McCarthy served from 1908, with the 1st Battalion, Cheshire Regiment in India.
He transferred to the 2nd Battalion and served in France in the 2nd Battle of Ypres for 4 months before being captured and taken as a prisoner of war for 3 and a half years.
He was demobbed 1919, settled in East London where he got married and raised a family of 4 children. He died in 1946.
