Pte. John Gillies MM.
British Army 9th Btn. Seaforth Highlanders
from:Roslin
My grandfather, John GIllies, won his Military Medal for bravery in the field (wounded and gassed) during the taking of the chemical works during the Battle of Arras on 17/18th of April 1917. He survived the war.
He died in a pit accident (gassed) in 1930. I sometimes wonder what can be done to honour the men that came back and helped put the country back on its feet.
