235388 A/Cpl. Sidney A. Elwell British Army 237th Field Coy. Royal Engineers from:Wordsley, Stourbridge My maternal grandfather, Sidney Elwell, trained in Reading in November 1915 as a driver. I have a digitised copy of his diary, but part of it is missing. It begins in October 1916 and then jumps to May 1917. It mentions places: Poperinghe, Vermozeele, Booserenge, Hill 60, Pheasant Wood, St. Eloi and many more. He survived the war and returned to work at Stuarts Crystal Glassworks in Wordsley. He was foreman of the glass cutting shop and took me around the factory many times.
