234806 Pte. Robert Wingate British Army Northumberland Fusiliers Robert Wingate was part the first reinforcements to arrive after the Big Push at the Battle of the Somme in July 1916. He left the Somme in November 1916 with trench fever. He was later to return to the front at Nieuport in 1917 where he was with the 257th Tunnellers and received a gunshot wound to his hand. He was transferred back to England after spending some time in hospital at Boulogne.
