234427 Pte. John Nicholson British Army 21st Btn. Northumberland Fusiliers from:Bedlington (d.30th June 1916) John Nicholson died from the effects of gas in the military hospital at Rouen and is buried in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen. He had two daughters, the youngest he saw only once as his wife was pregnant when he went to France. He got compassionate leave to see her. He was born at Sherrif Hill, Gateshead. His brother James, died the following day, July 1st, on the attack near La Boiselle and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial as his body was never found.
