Essex Regiment from:London It has only been recently that I discovered my paternal grandfather, Alfred Wright fought on the Somme, was wounded, received medical attention and returned to the battlefield. He was one of the fortunate ones who survived the Battle but he died prematurely at the early age of fifty, his war wounds cited as the main reason for his early demise. On the centenary of the battle, I have registered this note in honour of his memory.
