230960 Pte. Sidney Charles Tyers British Army 2/4 Btn. Leicestershire Rgt. from:Leicester (d.30th November 1917) Sidney Tyers died aged 22; he was the baby of the family, much loved of my grandmother and his mother was said to be broken hearted, never quite recovering. He was sent to Dublin as part of the force putting down the Easter uprising in 1916; he sent home a postcard, commenting that Dublin was full of rubble, something of an understatement. He died at Cambrai, on the day of the major German counter-offensive, when British losses were very high. He has no grave, his body was never found and his name is recorded only on the Cambrai memorial.
