229651 Pte. Fred Cook British Army 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards from:Sabden, Lancashire (d.19th Sep 1914) Fred Cook joined up at Burnley, on the 21st of November 1910, age 20 years 9 months. He was born in New Mills, Derbyshire and the family moved to Sabden. His father Samuel Cook was calico printing foreman in the cotton mill. His father moved to Brazil to find work when the factory burned down. Fred was at the Guards Depot at Caterham and was mobilised in London on 7th of August 1914, he was posted to France on the same date. He died of wounds on 19th of September 1914. He was buried in Troyon Churchyard, the grave marked with a wooden cross. His remains were later removed to the Vendresse British Cemetery nearby. His father was advised in Brazil of his death.
