229210 Gunner William James Williams British Army 153 Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery from:Bristol (d.16 September 1917) This is my grandfather, who, having been born in 1950, I sadly never knew.
Tragically his widow, Rosa, my grandmother, was left alone with three young children and had to raise them on her small earnings as a seamstress.
My grandfather died in a field hospital in Belgium. I plan to visit his grave in Belgium, hopefully, before I am much older.
Rosa died when I was about six years old and I never learnt anything about my grandfather from her although my mother said that Rosa had admired William in his blue uniform.
I have been unable to find out much about the 153rd. Siege Battery, for instance the guns they had. Als,o I have never seen a picture of my grandfather, perhaps there is a regimental photograph that a reader of this may have.
