227846 Pte. Mortimer Hugh Harvey British Army 1st Battalion Royal East Surrey from:London Mortimer Harvey is believed to have been the son of the mayor of Kingston on Thames, which was the home of the East Surrey Regiment. He enrolled on April 9th leaving his five young children at home with his wife Florence Elebeck nee Lee. Mortimer lost a portion of his stomach following a poison gas attack at Ypres, and was discharged on July 7th, 1917. His family was surprised and Mortimer was overjoyed when his wife gave birth to Phyllis, his sixth child, born on May 2nd, 1920. He lived to enjoy his grandchildren and die of old age unlike many of his fellow soldiers.
