227190 Pte. Charles Frank Patience British Army 7th Battalion Queens Royal West Surrey from:East Croydon (d.21st April 1917) Charles Patience was in the 7th Battalion, Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment and around January 1917 he was a prisoner of war at Maretz and he was shot for stepping out of the ranks to pick up a cigarette. That he was not trying to escape is shown by the fact that the bullet that killed him wounded two other men in the ranks. He died on 21st April, 1917 and was buried at Maretz Communal Cemetery German Extension and then reburied at the Honnechy British Cemetery. He had married in December, 1915 aged 20.
