Lt George Brooke, Lieutenant died on the 7th of October 1914 of wounds received at the Battle of the Aisne.
This cross was used to mark temporarily his grave in the Guards corner of the cemetery at Soupir. Gloria finis. A window in the church is dedicated "To the glory of God and in memory of George Brooke, Lieutenant, Irish Guards, Eldest son of Sir George Brooke, 1st baronet of Summerton. Born 10th June 1877."
