226089 Pte. George Edward Shaw British Army 8th Btn. South Staffordshire Regiment from:Hanley George Shaw was born on 23rd of May 1897. He served in the British Army during WW1 and survived several major battles. He was wounded late on in the war and sent to Coventry Hospital to recover. A German bullet hit the back of his Benson silver pocket watch and undoubtedly saved his life. I still have the watch and his 3 medals. He was also gassed and lost his sense of smell as a result.
