Robert Alderson volunteered in May 1915, serving the signal section of the Royal Engineers as a driver.
He served in Egypt (Cairo and Alexandria) and later transferred to France, where he was a driver for the signal section of RE in Ypres, the Somme, Albert, Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele.
He was demobbed in June 1919 holding the 1914-1915 Star and General Service and Victory Medals
