223848 Pte. George Petrie Ogilvie Shepherd British Army 15th Btn. Highland Light Infantry from:Glasgow At age 24 my maternal grandfather George Shepherd enlisted as a bomber at the outbreak of hostilities. I have almost no information about his service other than he was gassed while clearing trenches in France. At Christmas 1915 he received one of the brass gift boxes Princess Mary sent to the British troops. Following the war he emigrated to the US and remained very bitter about his service and the war in general.
