223353 2nd Lt. George Wilfred Berry British Army 5th Btn Durham Light Infantry (d.25th Aug 1917) 2nd Lt George Wilfred Berry, known as Wilfred in the family, was a member of 5th Btn Durham Light Infantry. In 1917 he was attached to the 19th Btn DLI and was was killed leading his platoon in a counter attack on 25th of Aug 1917. An account of the action including his death is included in John Sheen's book the Durham Pals (pages 185-186). We do not know whether he arrived in France with the 5th Bn in 1915.
