219293 Pte. Albert William Charles Green MMde.British Army 1st Battalion East Surrey Regiment from:Croydon My father, Albert William Charles Green, was a Private in the 1st Battalion East Surreys. He was with the BEF in France in August 1914, and fought with the 1st Battalion, until the end of the war, in November 1918. He was in the Royal Navy, but jumped ship to join the East Surreys. He enlisted under the assumed name of Bloomfied, and because of this all his medals are awarded under the name of Bloomfield.
He fought in many of the major campaigns and battles, including Hill 60, and Vimy Ridge. He was awarded the French Medaille for gallantry during the action at Delville Wood on 14th of June 1917. He was the Battalion runner.
Dad died in 1977 still very proud of his old regiment
