217101 Rfmn. John George Mathers British Army 17th (Poplar and Stepney Rifles) Btn. London Regiment from:Plaistow, Essex (d.24th Aug 1918) Rifleman John George Mathers joined the 17th (County of London) Battalion (Poplar and Stepney Rifles). He was killed in action on 24th August 1918 leaving a wife and 4 young sons one of whom was my father-in-law Albert Henry Mathers.
