2nd Lt. Benjamin George Beatty

Royal Flying Corps 45th Squadron

Benjamin George Beatty was the son of Francis Rowland Beatty and Jane Sophia Beatty, of 14 Sydney Avenue, Blackrock, Co. Dublin. He died aged 22 and is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial.

Additional Information:

George was a member of the St. John Ambulance, St. James's Gate (Guinness Brewery) Ambulance Division. This was the first division of the St. John Ambulance No.12 (Irish) District. On the outbreak of the war over 500 members of the St. John Ambulance left Ireland to serve in the war, the majority joined the Royal Naval Auxilliary Sick Berth Reserve and the Royal Army Medical Corps. This is not including the women of St. John Ambulance (Ireland) that left to serve in the war.
