216186 Pte. Joseph Marmaduke Simpson British Army 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (d.20th Sep 1918) Joseph Simpson died aged 19 as a prisoner of war. He was born in Walker in 1899, son of Richard and Sarah Simpson. He lived and enlisted in Jarrow. In the 1911 Census he is recorded as Joseph Marmaduke Simpson age 12, lived with his parents Richard & Sarah Simpson & family at 10, Back York Street, Jarrow. He is buried in Berlin South Western Cemetery and is commemorated on the Triptych in St. Paul's Church Jarrow.
