215740 Pte. James Henry Hancock British Army 12th Btn. Manchester Regiment (d.7th Jul 1916) Pte James Hancock was amongst 539 men and 16 officers of the 12th Manchesters who were killed in action, listed as missing or wounded at Contalmaison on the Somme on the 7th of July. His name is to be found on the memorial at Thiepval. He was born in 1878 and was married to Margaret. They had 8 children. In the 1911 census his occupation is General Blacksmith. He died aged 39.
