John Cameron was the Chief Engineer onboard the S.S. Whorlton (West Hartlepool) with the Mercantile Marine. He was aged 56 when he died on 20th January 1918. Born in Dundee, John lived in Jarrow where he worked in Palmer Shipyard, before the war. On the 1911 census he is listed as John Cameron age 52 Marine Engineer on Steamships is with his daughter Eliza Gall Thirkell (nee Cameron) and family at 35 St. Marys Terrace, South Shields. He was the husband of Mrs. Cameron, of 18 Dulverton Avenue Stanhope Road, South Shields.
John is remembered on the Tower Hill Memorial.
