214668 Pte. Samuel Owens British Army 1st Btn. Yorkshire Regiment from:4 Sylvia Terrace, West Hanley (d.22nd Aug 1917) Samuel Owens Private 3/18452 enlisted in the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers and died from wounds on the 22nd August 1917. He is remembered at St. Paul's Church and is buried in Red Cross Corner Cemetery, Beugny, France He was born in Jarrow in 1882 and the 1911 census shows him (age 29) living at 4 Sylvia Terrace, West Hanley with his wife Margaret also 29 having 3 daughters, Elizabeth 6, Jane 4 and Anne 6 months together with son John aged 2. They have been married for 5 years and Samuel is working as a shifter in a coal mine.
